Do As I Say, Not As I Do
I am going to tell you to be confident and ask the guy you are interested in out. Walk up to him and tell him you want to take him to dinner. Tell him that you think his shirt looks great, that you like his new haircut.
But I have never asked a guy out. I am the 80% ask out girl – drop enough signals and send enough messages that you would have to be blind and deaf to not know that I like you. But I have never verbalized or emailized wanting to go on a date with someone to that person.
I am going to tell you that you should always openly communicate with your partner and tell them what you are thinking at all times. Open communication is the key to all successful relationships. You should tell your partner what you are thinking and how they make you feel and only with this type of exchange can you hope to build a strong foundation for the future.
I don’t communicate openly. I listen well and can share bits and pieces of my life and mind with someone when they ask me to, but my communication style is one that comes pouring out in 6 hours of straight conversation or a 17 page letter (yes, back and front).
I am going to tell you that you should keep an open mind when meeting people. You never know what can happen and you should be open to meeting new people and seeing what develops. Go out of your comfort zone and give someone a chance that you normally wouldn’t be attracted to. Hey, you never know.
I can tell in 5 minutes if I am going to like someone. I can tell in 5 seconds if I am attracted to him and in 4.5 minutes if he is going to be mentally engaging and interesting for me. If he doesn’t make me laugh in the first five minutes, he gets put in the friend bucket never to return to the dating bucket. There are rarely second chances and no one has moved from the friend bucket to my bed or heart.
I am going to tell you to listen to the advice I give in my posts because it comes from the person I strive to be, not the person I actually am today.
